East Anglian Railway Museum is in Chappel by Chappel & Wakes Colne Station, near Colchester. (Map).
The Museum has a wide collection of locomotives and rolling stock, some of which are fully restored and others are undergoing repair and restoration. The Restoration Shed was built in 1983-4, prior to which most work had to take place in the Goods Shed or in the open.
Visitors are welcome to look around the shed and see our volunteers at work. The workshops are adjacent, and there is a wide variety of machinery that enables us to do most engineering and carpentry work. For health and safety reasons we regret that we are unable to offer public access to the workshop area.
We always welcome questions about ongoing work - please feel free to ask our volunteers about what they are doing - and why! We welcome new volunteers - please ask in the Visitor Reception for further details. You do not need any special skills for many of the jobs, and training is available in many areas.
There are currently no events in the Colchester area during the next 1 years that we know about.
